Overview

The Adult Education Service provides a number of education programmes throughout the county. The service is administered through the Vocational Education Committee headquarters at Coiléar Bán, Athenry, Co. Galway. The Adult Education Service offers a comprehensive, holistic, inclusive programme of education to all its learners. It aims to ensure that all who come to study can do so at a level that compliments their innate talents and abilities.

County Galway VEC is divided into two regions, each of which is managed by one of two Adult Education Officers.

Overview of Service / Programmes & Certification Offered

The Community Education Service supports the development of Community Education across the county.  The service is part of the Co. Galway V.E.C. Life Long Adult Education Service and through the Community Education Grant Scheme, provides support in the form of financial assistance to community and voluntary groups wishing to run educational programmes in their own locality.

Community and Voluntary Groups

Resources & Expertise Available:

Advice and assistance is available to community and voluntary organisations in promoting the development and nurturing of new community-based learning groups.

The Community Education Service provides the following:

  • Support to new and existing community education groups in the form of technical, administrative and educational inputs.
  • Developing and encouraging partnerships and links with statutory and other providers.
  • Promoting the role of the sector in supporting outreach and referral to the statutory sector.
  • Liasing on quality assurance, accreditation and certification issues.

Assistance in the implementation of the Back to Education countywide is available through this service.

Times available:

Programmes are timed to meet the needs of the Community and Voluntary groups.
