Tuam Adult Learning Centre serves the town and a wide rural hinterland in north east Galway. Adult literacy tuition is arranged locally, with a focus on the skills that matter in daily life. Learners can work on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy or digital skills with a trained tutor.
What tuition covers
The work starts from the learner's own goals. Some people want to read letters or fill in forms. Others want to help a child with homework, prepare for a course or use a computer with confidence. The tutor plans each session around those priorities.

Who it is for

Times and venues
Tuition is arranged at times that suit the learner and the tutor, including evenings where possible. Venues are chosen for privacy and convenience. If travel is a barrier, tell the organiser so that an alternative can be considered.

Confidentiality
The service is private. Staff do not tell employers, schools or family members that you are attending unless you ask them to. Records are kept to support learning and are handled under data protection law.
