The Youth Officer works across the county to develop youth work and to support youth organisations, volunteers and young people. The role sits within the Committee's education remit and connects with schools, centres and community services.
What the role covers
- Supporting youth clubs and projects with advice and training.
- Helping young people take part in decision making.
- Developing programmes for inclusion and personal development.
- Linking youth work with education and other services.
- Promoting safe practice and good governance in youth organisations.
- Representing the county in youth work networks.
For youth organisations
Groups can ask for help with planning, volunteer training, funding applications and safeguarding. The officer will explain what support is available and will not take over the group's own responsibility.
For young people
Young people can ask about local youth projects, participation opportunities and training. If the officer cannot help directly, they will make a connection with an appropriate service.
For parents and schools
Parents and schools can seek advice about youth work opportunities for young people, particularly those who are disengaged or need a different setting. The officer can also advise on safeguarding concerns.
Youth work is voluntary and youth led. The officer supports the sector rather than running every club directly.
