Gort and its hinterland are home to people from many countries. ESOL classes provide a regular place to practise English, ask questions and build the confidence needed for work, school and daily life.
Who the classes are for
Adults whose first language is not English. Some learners are new to the area; others have lived here for years and want to improve their written English or prepare for a course. Classes are grouped by level so that everyone can progress.
What is covered
- Speaking and listening for everyday situations.
- Reading and writing for work and official forms.
- Vocabulary for employment, health and housing.
- Digital skills for online services.
- Preparation for further education or training.
How to join
Contact the adult education office and ask for ESOL in the Gort area. You will be given the current venue, time and fee, and may be invited to a short assessment so that you are placed at the right level. If no class is running, ask to be added to the interest list.
Support beyond the classroom
Learners can also use adult literacy support for reading and writing, and adult guidance to plan a course or a career step. These services are confidential and free.
