Communications

Co Galway VEC recognises the importance of dialogue with staff, learners and other stakeholders and that dialogue should be in a format appropriate to the diversity of learners across the grounds covered by Equality Legislation. To ensure this Co Galway VEC will undertake the following:

  • Dissemination of relevant, accurate, and up-to-date information, in an appropriate format(s), to staff, learners, and other stakeholders
  • Seek constructive feedback from staff, learners, and other stakeholders, in an appropriate format(s), on their experiences of programmes and services

 

Equality

Co Galway VEC recognises the dignity of all persons. It aims to provide an environment that ensures equality of treatment for all its learners regardless of gender, marital status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, race, and membership of the Traveller community, and undertakes to comply with the requirements of the Equal Status Acts 2000 and 2004 the Employment Equality Acts 1998 and 2004 in relation to equality in employment, service provision and anti-harassment. To ensure this Co Galway VEC will undertake the following:

  • Promote an awareness of best practice through ongoing staff and learner training programmes
  • Accommodate the diversity of users of its service
  • Include equality issues in annual plan

 

Staff Recruitment & Development

Co Galway VEC recognises the importance of recruiting qualified, professional staff to ensure provision of a quality service to its learners, and of supporting staff development to meet the requirements of new learning programmes. In order to achieve this it undertakes to:

  • Adhere to DES regulations on staff recruitment
  • Follow procedures that ensure a fair and transparent process of staff recruitment
  • Promote and support staff development in advance of the introduction of new learning programmes
  • Upskill staff in teaching and learning methodologies

 

Access, Transfer & Progression

Co Galway VEC recognises the importance of facilitating access, supporting transfer and promoting progression for the diversity of learners recognised in the Equal Status Acts 2000 and 2004, to enhance their educational opportunities. To ensure this Co Galway VEC will undertake the following:

  • Provide potential learners with appropriate information, in a suitable format, to make informed choices regarding programmes
  • Utilise fair and transparent entry arrangements to all programmes
  • Provide for recognition of prior learning which may have been acquired through formal, non-formal, or informal routes
  • Adapt programmes, when required, and as resources allow
  • Promote and support learner transfer or progression to another programme within the National Framework of Qualifications

 

Programme Development, Delivery & Review

Co Galway VEC is committed to ‘providing excellence in the quality of our education service to all the people of Co Galway’. To help achieve this it is committed to delivering programmes, developed to meet identified learner needs in conjunction with stakeholders, using appropriate methodologies and resources, in a healthy and safe environment. To achieve excellence programme development and delivery will be evaluated regularly, with all stakeholders contributing to the evaluation.

 

Fair & Consistent Assessment of Learners

Co Galway VEC recognises the importance of maintaining the validity of the assessment process. In order to achieve this it is committed to carrying out assessment that is fair to all learners, consistent across assessors and national best practice, and ensuring that all persons engaged in assessment have a clear understanding of the process.

 

Protection for Learners

Co Galway VEC is committed to providing appropriate protection for all its learners on all its programmes of 3 months duration or more. To ensure this it will endeavour to provide alternative learning option(s) for learners, within its service, should a programme cease unexpectedly. Section 43 of the Qualifications (Education and Training) Act does not apply to Co Galway VEC.

 

Self Evaluation of Programmes & Services

Co Galway VEC recognises the importance of evaluating its programmes and services to ensure quality provision to its learners. Therefore it is committed to regular evaluation, in conjunction with all its stakeholders, of its programmes, services, policies and procedures in order to improve programme quality and delivery.
