We have always been proud of our success rates in our Business and Secretarial course. We have always sought to remain abreast with changes in the world of work and to ensure participants on the course are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to take up employment in a wide variety of areas. The Western Health Board, Co. Galway V.E.C. offices, solictors' offices and the Co. Council are but some.
We are always delighted to see the high number of our Leaving Certificate students return to attend this course. Some take up immediate employment on completion of the course while others view the course as a stepping stone to further education. The year 2000 saw our first enrolment of mature students to attend this course. The feedback has been very favourable as everyone agrees the modules chosen are relevant and practical to the world of work today. In particular, the Work Experience module aids the gradual return to the office environment as candidates must complete a given number of hours in an office of their choice in order to receive an award in this module. Much emphasis is placed on Computer Studies, essential to survive in the modern office today. Participants are also tutored in the preparation of Curriculum Vitae, interview preparation and good communication skills. Of course there is the social aspect and meeting of new people too.
The course consists of 8 modules in order to receive a Level 2 award from FETAC (Further Education & Training Awards Council), an awarding body widely recognised by employers throughout Ireland.
We also offer the course by day and to date two groups of mature students have received their award from ECDL Ireland. This course prepares candidates in 7 of the most important areas of computing. It has become increasingly popular in recent years and is now one of the principal computer awards recognised by employers in Ireland.
The within the school are upgraded each year to ensure we remain up to date with the latest developments in the whole area of Information Technology.
