Overview of Service / Programmes & Certification Offered
The North County Galway Advocacy Service is a confidential community based service funded by F�S in partnership with Co. Galway V.E.C. and offering support to young people between the ages of 16-21 who have dropped out of the education system or are at risk of dropping out by using what is termed as the MAGIC approach – (Mentoring, Advocacy, Guidance, Information, Counselling).
An individual career path plan is designed for each young person setting realistic objectives with the aim of progression towards education, training, or employment and the ultimate goal of the young person reaching independent living.
Assistance is given in the form of: Home visits, CV preparation, Liasing with employment/training agencies, Listening with a view to problem solving and referrals to appropriate professionals.
Referrals of clients come from:
- Tracking Officer
- Youthreach and Traveller Training Centre Directors
- School Principals
- Social Workers
- Juvenile Liaison Officers (An Garda SÃochána)
- Word of mouth
The Advocacy Worker also works closely with the following bodies:
- Secondary Schools
- Youthreach and Traveller Training Centre Directors
- School Principals
- Co. Galway V.E.C.
- Adult Education Services
- Social Welfare Services
- Social Workers
- An Garda SÃochána
- Probation Services
- Local Community
